G’day! Short post for you this Monday morning!
I know this sounds weird, but I love that our house has a hallway. In my dreams, before this house was a reality, I wanted a ranch. I just love the idea of kids running up and down a hallway giggling and playing. It just screams home to me.
Well, we had a hallway, but it didn’t quite scream cozy to me. It more so just … screamed.
This was on the day we saw it in person for the first time. Again, nothing major was wrong with it at all. We just wanted to warm it up a bit and add some board and batten, BUT we also knew that actual real board and batten was an arm and a leg. And a spleen and left phalange. Solution? DIY!
Although I haven’t taken you guys on a full tour of our house yet, let me explain something. I am terrified of wall color. If it’s not gray or a light wall color, I’m going to have to be very much talked in to it because I’m just so scared I’m going to get sick of it and then have to paint all over again and just no thank you. I’m good at painting, BUT I DESPISE DOING IT.
So, for up top, we chose Sherwin Williams Storm Cloud and I LOVE it. So glad we did this color! Our lower half with the board and batten is all Sherwin Williams Extra White, which is the same color all the other trim is in our house.
Just in case you’re wondering how this was done I’ve included a photo below explaining it just a bit:
It’s super easy. 1×6 are all our baseboards, the vertical pieces are are 1×3 and the horizontal pieces are 1×4. The vertical pieces are placed every other stud so 32″ inches apart.
We’re definitely not done here. We’re on the hunt for a runner at the very least, we just haven’t found the exact one. I’m real picky about rugs. Shocker.
Also, do y’all know how friggin hard it is to photograph a dark hallway?! Boy.
That’s really all I have for you guys today!
So you don’t forget, pin it for later:
On to our next project to take us from gross to grandiose…
